Elmer Apperson

August 13, 1861- March 28, 1920

Elmer Apperson was born on a farm southeast of Kokomo in Taylor township Aug.13, 1861. He was educated at public schools and attended a normal school in Valparaiso, Indiana. Elmer served an apprenticeship in a Kokomo Machine Shop until he and his younger brother, Edgar, founded the Riverside Machine Works.

Edgar Apperson

October 3, 1870- May 12, 1959

Edgar Apperson, younger brother of Elmer, brought energy and youth to the building of ￿America￿s First Car.￿ Although he had no formal education beyond high school, he was mechanically inclined and took great pride in being a part of the of the automobile industry. Edgar once said that he took advice from only two people, Elwood Haynes and his older brother Elmer. He also worked with two of the best mechanics of the time, John Maxwell and Billy Adrian.
